How to measure

Sizes are not standardized among wedding dress manufacturers. The important thing to look at in a listing is the measurements.

Taking your measurements is the first step when choosing your wedding dress size regardless of whether you are purchasing a new or used wedding gown.

The right fit is critical and will affect the drape and line of your wedding dress. Wear undergarments when you take these measurements.

It is a good idea to have a dressmaker or seamstress check your measurements for you to be sure you have them correct.

Once you have written your measurements down check your particular designer size charts to choose the perfect size for your wedding dress or evening gown. There are variations in sizes depending on the brand and designer. You may find that you need to buy a dress up to two sizes up from your normal size.

If buying a used, preowned or as new,  wedding dress obtain as much information as you can from the seller about the gown prior to purchase.

When choosing a size, be sure that all of your measurements are the same or higher than those of the size you are selecting. Please bear in mind that each wedding dress designer has specific size charts for their product.

Remember it is easier for a dressmaker or seamstress to take a wedding dress in than to let it out.

Do keep in mind that all wedding dresses and some evening gowns will need some minor alterations. It does'nt matter if you buy a used, preowned, second hand wedding dress or a new wedding dress from a bridal shop or simply buy online.

Measuring Yourself

Please take measurements wearing similar underwear to what you will be wearing on your wedding day without shoes.

If you have purchased your shoes, please provide heel height. Otherwise provide an estimate of the heel heighttip measure the heel of shoes you already own.

It is best to get another person (YWW highly recommend that you have a professional dressmaker take these measurements)to help you measure yourself. Using a tape measure:

Measure all the way around the fullest part of your bust.  This is not your bra size.

Measure the narrowest part of your waist (approximately 3 cms 1 inch above the navel).

Measure the largest part of the hip. This measurement is approximately 22 cm (6 - 7 inches) down from your waist.Check the measurements more than once up to 3 times to ensure correct fit.

Custom Wedding Gown

Wedding gowns that are made specifically to your provided measurements need the following measurements added to those specified above to ensure correct fit. Generally, a custom made dress or gown will take 6 - 12 weeks from the time you place your order to delivery.

Please allow plenty of time before your wedding day to order your wedding gown or bridesmaid dress. This will allow for adjustments to your dress or gown if your measurements change.

Upper Bust- Measure above the breasts and around the back.

Under Bust- Measure directly beneath the breasts and around the back.

Apex to Apex- Measure nipple to nipple

Shoulder to Apex- Measure shoulder to nipple

Shoulder to shoulder- Taken from the back.
